What to do in Rio de Janeiro when it’s raining
In this article we will give you 5 tips on what to do on rainy days in Rio de Janeiro. Are they:
Museum of Tomorrow
Municipal Theater
CCBB (Banco do Brasil Cultural Center)
Petropolis
Sports event
But first, let me get you two super tips. Even with rain, on the S2RIO City Tour you can get to know Rio’s main sights in just one day! This with a guide that will tell you the history of the city. See the tour page here.
The second tip is to take a super cultural tour with our partner Free Walker Tours. You will get to know the history of Rio with motivated guides and full of very interesting information. More info here.
1 – Museum of Tomorrow

The Museum of Tomorrow is one of the most recent points of the city, much visited even by the Cariocas themselves. Very worth checking out!
The museum is located in Mauá Square, where there are often shows, artistic events and foodtrucks. A great place to spend a beautiful afternoon.
2 – Municipal Theater

This is a type of tour that I recommend to do regardless of the weather. An exquisite place with a beautiful structure already outside.
Stay on top of the events that happen there, there are often free or low priced shows.
3 – CCBB (Banco do Brasil Cultural Center)

There is always a very interesting exhibition at CCBB. It will be an enriching ride! Be careful that time does not pass without your noticing.
It has cinema, theater and performances by renowned artists often.
Check out the article about the best museums in Rio.
4 – Petrópolis

Petrópolis is a place that blends perfectly with a falling drizzle. The wet trees and the cold weather are very pleasant (at least for cariocas:]). The sights in the City are mostly covered. The Imperial Museum, St. Peter’s Cathedral and Alcantara Palace will delight you.
It is even possible to do our tour in Petrópolis, with all the convenience and quality of S2RIO. Visit the page here. :]
Check out our article about Quitandinha Palace, which was once the largest casino in South America and located in… Petrópolis.
5 – Sporting Events

It is good once you arrive in Rio de Janeiro, to find out about sporting events, as many happen in closed arenas and are a good choice regardless of the weather forecast.
