Get to know the Praça São Salvador in Rio de Janeiro

Today we are going to talk about one of the busiest places, if not the busiest, in Rio. The Plaza de São Salvador is located in the neighborhood of Laranjeiras, in the South Zone of the city. It has become one of Rio’s most interesting environments because, in addition to having fairs, it also brings musical culture and nightlife. That is, fun for all tastes.

The musical part is guaranteed by the famous chorinho that happens every Sunday at 11am. The band Arruma or Coreto, which plays well in the kiosk of the square, is a group of experienced musicians, fierce in chorinho. People get together and it’s always extraordinarily nice. Also because there are usually stalls with delicacies and food that day, that is, a complete attraction.

“Arrange the Bandstand” is a joke with the block “Messy My Bandstand”, which also happens in the square during Carnival. The group has been playing together there for ten years. It has become a guaranteed city event.

The fair in the Plaza de São Salvador appeared as a result of chorinho. The town was very empty and bland on weekends. With music, many people were attracted and, consequently, merchants. It is even a bit crowded at times because of the number of stalls that sell handicrafts, food and delicatessen in the square on Sundays. It is always a good opportunity to know a new recipe or buy something different and creative. Or even enjoy the classic cake with sugarcane juice.

The square has a beautiful fountain in the center. The night is a super bohemian place, as there are some bars around and street vendors selling drinks to the public. It is a place known for not having an empty day, perhaps only on Monday. San Salvador always has movement at night. In addition to being crowded on Thursdays, Fridays and weekends, there is a place where live music is usually heard. Either a group of samba or solo artists “playing” with their instruments. There is always something interesting out there.

Without a doubt, a great place to meet in Rio de Janeiro.
