How to go from Rio de Janeiro International Airport to Copacabana?
There are several ways to go from Galeão Airport to Copacabana, or to your final destination. Here I will highlight some of the main ones, showing the advantages and disadvantages of each, to help you make the best decision =]
They are:
Bus
Taxi
Private Transfer
Colective Transfer
Uber
1 – AIRPORT BUS:
The airport bus, for those going to the Center, Gloria, Catete, Largo do Machado, Flamengo, Botafogo, Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon or Barra da Tijuca, is undoubtedly the most economical option, the value is R $ 16.00 per person.
Where does it come from?
At the exit of the landing of Terminal 2.
Who goes to South Zone, must take the bus 2018 that goes by Orla.
Who goes to Barra de Tijuca can take Bus 2918 that goes by the Yellow Line.
Both have as final point the “Alvorada” in the Barra da Tijuca.
Advantage:
Price, comfort, trunk for suitcases.
Disadvantages:
Travel time. The journey made by the bus passes through the Rodoviaria and all possible neighborhoods. So, if you go to the South Zone of the City, it may take up to 3 hours to reach your destination, depending on traffic. Of all the times I made that route, the fastest was in 55 minutes, on the last bus of the day and on a day without any traffic.

The cost-benefit of the bus leaving the Galeão, is interesting for those who travel alone or who really is with the right money.
2 – TAXIS
2.1 – TACTILES WITH TAXIMETER:
For those who have a cell phone with GPS, it may be the best option because you can use GPS and ensure that the driver is on the right track. The value is around R $ 60.00 to the South Zone.
2.2 – TAXI WITH FIXED PRICE:
At the airport there is a taxi company called Aerocoop that has fixed prices, thus avoiding surprises. Up to Copacabana the value is around R $ 82.00 + R $ 2.00 per suitcase.
Advantage:
In groups it is the best Cost / Time.
Disadvantages:
Unfortunately there are still many dishonest taxi drivers, although in recent years that has improved a lot.
S2 Suggestion:
My suggestion is that I always take an Aerocoop taxi, write down the taxi number and the license plate number. So, if something happens, at least you’ll have something to complain about.
I remind you that the Ubers, unfortunately, are banned at the Galeão Airport.
2.3 EXECUTIVE TAXI
If the hotel is in the center of the city. The Executive taxi is an option, but it is not recommended and it is very expensive,
Advantage:
No queues, no waiting.
Disadvantages:
Excessively high price.

3 – PRIVATE TRANSFER
Through a reservation, you will have a driver and a car, exclusive for you. The driver waits for you with his name on a plaque, on the Unloading.
Advantage:
No queues, no wait.
Guileless.
Quality Transportation
Qualified driver
Disadvantages:
Price.
4 – COLLECTIVE TRANSFER
There are companies that work with collective transfers, such as: Easy Transfer and Shuttle Rio. Prices vary from R $ 25.00 to R $ 30.00 per person.
Advantage:
Faster than the bus
Disadvantages:
Indefinite hours.
High cost for the service provided.
5 – Uber
The best option, no doubt, is to get a Uber. Especially if it’s in 4 people. It is faster than the bus, safer than the taxi.
The only difficulty is the internet. The airport offers internet, but sometimes it is weak or you may have difficulty accessing it. There is a StarBucks one floor above the International Arrivals. There is internet, just have a coffee.
The price of Uber is cheaper than the taxi metered. The price is from 60 to 80 reais.
Advantage:
More affordable price, speed, comfort.
Disadvantage:
If alone or in two, more expensive than the bus.
