HOW TO GET TO ILHA GRANDE LEAVING RIO DE JANEIRO?
The Big Island is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places in Rio de Janeiro (in my opinion it is the most beautiful), with its beautiful beaches of fine sand and crystal clear waters, besides the immense vegetation, it is located in the municipality of Angra dos Reis, 170 km away from Copacabana, on the Costa Verde of Rio de Janeiro, there are several attractions, including boat tours, walking and even diving options.
For those who come to the river is almost a mandatory visit, so, it is important to know how to get to the Big Island and is the one that we will show to you now.
Our company does not work with tansfers there, but we love helping our clients to reach their destinations!
That post will be organized as follows:
To go to Isla Grande on your own there are three ways to go:
1 – GOING FOR CONCEIÇÃO DE JACAREÍ

The first and best option is to go to Conceição de Jacareí, which is a district of Mangaratiba on the border with the city of Angra dos Reis. The route has approximately 130 km, which takes place between 02:00 to 02:30 depending on driving. If it is a bus, you have to pick up for Angra dos Reis from the Novo Rio bus terminal and exit at Concepción in the middle of the road, which is cheaper, but slower. You can go by car, it’s faster and it’s easy to find place in the city, which cost an average of 20 reais in daily life.
From the dock of Concepción de Alcobendas ships of different sizes and speeds that take around 20 to 40 minutes to reach the Big Island, the prices also vary from R $ 20 to $ 40 per person, and it is worth observing that December March is the high season and it is more difficult to find parking and if you arrive late, you may have to wait for the next boats
ADVANTAGE:
Greater use of time, ease of Car and Near Boat
Greater freedom of schedules, Several boats leaving per day
Minor boat tour, with Flex type boats is possible to arrive in 15 minutes
It is possible to arrive to Isla before 09:30 when the first walks leave
DISADVANTAGES:
The return by Conceição de Jacareí bus is complicated.
In the Concepción de Alcobendas you would have to wait for the bus to pass in the middle of the Carretera, running the risk of not leaving or being full of people, being this way we indicate that they return by Angra dos Reis and take the bus in the Bus Terminal.
Another good option is to buy the transfer time to the Big Island to Rio de Janeiro, with the Ticket Adventure, currently, the cost of R $ 110 per person, despite being a little more expensive, you can save on worries
GOING FOR MANGARATIBA
Another option, the cheapest, is to go to the center of Angra dos Reis, which is the neighbor of Angra dos Reis, in a trip of approximately 2 hours. The bus station of the river bus directly to the dock of Mangaratiba, however this delay, since it stops in the cities of the region by the way. Going by car, as well as in Concepción, they have spaces in the city with a price of around 20 reales. The port of the city is one of the places where boats leave every day, operated by the CCR company, on the Big Island. The cost of the boat is R $ 15.00, with capacity for up to 500 people and tickets can be purchased at the boarding pier.
SCHEDULES:
Mangaratiba to Isla Grande – 08:00 (arrival forecast at 09:40)
Mangaratiba to the Big Island – 10pm, only on Fridays (anticipation of arrival at 23:40).
The Big Island up to angra dos reis – 5:30 p.m. (anticipation of arrival at 7:10 p.m.)
ADVANTAGE:
As stated before, it is the cheapest way to go to the Big Island and it will be difficult to embark, due to the capacity of the boat.
DISADVANTAGES:
There are few times to embark, which generates the need to go very early to the city and return as well.
The boat takes 1 hour and 40 minutes to get to the island, this time of crossing, besides being able to commit some walks, it can be bad for those who do not feel well traveling by boat and with many people.
GOING FOR ANGRA DOS REIS

Going directly to the city of Angra dos Reis, it will take you by car or average bus from 03:00 to 03:30 hours. When you arrive in the city, you can choose to take the CCR boat in the port or hire a boat trip in the Bay of Angra. The boat works in the same way as in angra dos reis, with a trip duration of 1 hour and 20 minutes and at a cost of 15 reais, only the schedules change.
SCHEDULES:
On Business days
Angra dos Reis to the Isla Grande – 3:30 pm (anticipation of arrival at 5:10 pm).
On weekends and holidays
Angra dos Reis to Isla Grande – 13:30 (forecast of arrival at 3:10 p.m.).
Everyday
The Big Island to Angra dos Reis – 10:00 (anticipation of arrival at 11:40).
The walk works like that of the tourist agencies leaving the River. Take the boat in the port of Ensenada, it is a day trip through the islands of the Bay of Angra, including Isla Grande, with some stops for diving.
ADVANTAGE:
The city of Angra dos Reis is the one with the best infrastructure in the region. In this way, for those who think about spending a night to catch the boat’s schedule or want to make other visits before, going through Angra is the best option.
DISADVANTAGES:
On the other hand, it is the farthest city to make the way to the Big Island, so if you have a short time, it is not the best option to go to Angra.
1 DAY TOURS WITH TOURISM AGENCIES

Another way to go to the island is to take an excursion in a direct tourist agency in Rio de Janeiro, like the S2 Rio, to enjoy a fun day without worrying about the trip. We have two types of excursions for you to choose:

DISADVANTAGES:
More expensive
