Confectionery Colombo Rio de Janeiro

Today I will tell you about the lovely Confectionery Colombo.

The Colombo Confectionery is one of the most traditional, if not the most traditional in Brazil. It is part of the cultural and artistic heritage of the city. With over 120 years, he produces his own sweets and is a great place to have that traditional English tea with toast and other combinations.

As an ancient and charming decoration, one of the most striking features is the central skylight and its elevator, one of the oldest in Rio. It is an excellent way to get to know the climate of the Belle Époque, with its touches of Art Nouveu, dating back to the 1910s. It is considered one of the ten most beautiful cafes in the world.

The period furniture was carved by artisan Antonio Borsoi. The large number of glass mirrors is one of the most striking elements of the interior. There is also a space dedicated to the memory of the bakery. Where you will find old dishes, menus and photos. It is worth checking out.

The establishment was inaugurated in 1894 by Portuguese immigrants frequented since then by celebrities from the high Carioca society. Some of them were Chiquinha Gonzaga, Olavo Bilac, Rui Barbosa, Vila Lobos and even President Getúlio Vargas, among many others.

Although there are several branches in Rio, the most interesting is the one in the center of the city, because it has a very old history and a refined architecture. Free Walker Tours will take you there on a guided tour, more information here.
