THE OLD RIO DE JANEIRO OF THE PAINTER EDUARDO CAMÃO – HOW WAS THE CITY 100 YEARS AGO?
Eduardo Camões, or “the man of the time machine”, as he became known, is an acclaimed painter-historian, who portrays in his works images that date back landscapes from 50, 100, 200 years ago, with the precision of those who use books. and old postcards, drawings of traveling botanists who were in Rio de Janeiro in the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries, photos taken since 1860, old descriptive texts, aerial photographs taken from helicopters, and drawings, enabling the reconstruction of the topography of the time.
Camões’ paintings certainly differ because of this historical basis, after all, so necessary when the sensation of time travel visually is to reliably recreate the depicted geographical spaces. His beautiful work has been cataloged in the books: Rio Antigo I, Rio Antigo II, Rio Antigo III, Recife Antigo and a pocket edition Rio Antigo.
In addition to images of Rio, the artist also contemplates European and American cities. His work is internationally recognized and undoubtedly deserves the attention of those who understand the importance of preserving history.
